It does work. I've reported a couple of Marzluff's crows seen around
Seattle. You'll get an email from the PI if you get a verified report.

Or so they can track birds themselves as part of a study ... this is
particularly true of color/letter wing tags (so a field worker can ID
a bird at a distance whilst observing it's behavior).
