Hi Tweets,

This afternoon I visited English Boom on the north end of Camano
Island to see what the martins are up to, and just as they have in
all past years with favorable weather, they've begun egg laying
pretty much right on schedule, second week in June. Seven nests had
eggs in clutches of 1, 2, and 3, so most likely the laying began in
the last few days, and all or most of these nests will have another
egg tomorrow. I was glad to see this level of activity, following
the disastrous year the birds had last year, I was half expecting
to see another decline this year. At least four of the fifteen or
so martins there were second year birds, two of which fledged from
colonies in BC last year.
