Vultures abound (which is good). By now, those
nesting here should be well along on eggs or have
nestlings. Won?t be long until grey-headed
vultures will be soaring around with their
parents. Following are the sightings from
Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia for May 2009.

01 ? 1 heading north southwest of Olympia; 1 at
Port Coquitlam, B.C.; ?dozens? near Cle Elum (separate sightings)
02 ? 4 between Sequim and Dungeness; 3 near Cle
Elum; 2 north of Kalama; 2 south of Kalama; 1
north of Wilsonville, Oregon; 2 south of
Wilsonville; 3 west of Donald, Ore; 3 in greater
Brooks area, Ore; 4 south of Junction City, Ore.
03 ? 1 at Buttertubs Marsh, Nanaimo, B.C.; 1 at
Lyman; 5 at Sequim; 1 at Burnaby Mt. Park, B.C.;
2 over Graysmarsh in Sequim; 27 in greater
Eugene, Oregon; 17 in kettle above Fern Ridge
Reservoir WA (this is a great spot for wintering
vultures, some years); 3 others not in kettle
04 ? 5 east of Eugene, Ore; 2 west of McKenzie
Bridge; 2 north of Millican, 4 south of Alfalfa;
3 west of Burns, 3 south of Burns, 2 north of
Malheur NWR, 2 north of Diamond (all in Oregon)
05 ? 1 at Camano Island; 1 at Springwood Park, Parksville, B.C.; 29 in Malheur
06 ? 1 over Target in Silverdale flying north in
the rain; 1 at the Iona sewage ponds in Richmond,
B.C.; 6 circling over Lake Leland; 10 in a dead
tree on the Skokomish Res; 7 from
Frenchglen-Paige Springs ; 4 south of Burns, 22 at Malheur

08 ? 3 between Forks and Lapush; 2 near Schafer
Boom Road; 1 north of Ocean Shores feeding on a
California sea lion carcass; 2 at Fort Canby
feasting on a dead otter; 19 at Malheur; 6 near Leslie Gulch, Ore.

Snoqualmie Valley; 5 over Sedro Woolley at
7:15pm; 1 on a deer carcass near Elma at 7am

Phinney Ridge; 2 sitting on posts on the shore of
