does anyone know if there are nighthawks flying the plateau? i can't imagine we have appropriate habitat, nor nesting spots, for them...

what i've heard the past two nights, for about 5-10 minutes each time, sounds similar to the first few seconds of the cornell audio playback if you take each one of the initial playback sounds, then chop those into two or three smaller-but-equal parts... same timbre, same tone, just quicker and shorter, with no wing booming, though.

what am i hearing? who is it that is keeping me from going back to a very comfortable sleep? being obsessed with getting the answer this morning cost me. have you ever, in total darkness, turned on your computer monitor, then stared into it for a few seconds? my eyesight became problematic; i'm surprised my home isn't littered with cat bodies, broken toes and furniture. :)

oh. about 415-ish, the cacophony of singing / calling of robins, grosbeaks, etc, becomes almost deafening :)
