Birders,

On June 6th and 7th, I attended the Washington Native Plant Society's Study
Weekend, based at Cashmere, WA. I also did additional botanizing and birding
in the area on June 8th and 9th.

Although I saw quite a few interesting birds in Chelan and Douglas Counties
over the 4 days, the most noteworthy was a LEAST FLYCATCHER which was
singing persistently on June 8th from an aspen grove on Winton Road about a
mile south of Coles Corner in Chelan County (i.e., about halfway between
Coles Corner and Winton). I didn't see the bird, but the song is
unmistakable.

Least Flycatchers are quite rare in Chelan County-- much more so than in
Okanogan County, where they breed regularly. According to Ken & Laurie
Knittle's "Birds in Washington State: a County Comparison", there were fewer
than 5 records for Chelan County as of 2004.

Good luck and good birding,
