Last week, I took a walk in the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge to the
Dungeness Spit and back. At about mile 4 (5.5 mile out to the lighthouse)
there is a Caspian Tern nesting colony. There are thousands of Caspian Terns.
Bring your binoculars for a close look but be careful not to go passed the
closed areas of the refuge as you could disrupt their nesting habitat. As
you walk along the Dungeness Spit you will see Caspian Terns fishing and
diving for fish to feed to their young ones. It is quite a sight to see. I
have never seen so many Caspian Terns in one place. I highly recommend
visiting the DNWR. There is a $3 fee to get in.
