Hey All-

There appears to be some confusion with the TWO mystery birds that
were reported in the past few days. One is a photo from Eureka, CA,
the other is a description of a descending call (Brown-headed
Cowbird) locally.

I would hazard that the bird in the PHOTO from EUREKA is a Hooded
Oriole. Long decurved beak, black face, orange head and belly, dark
wings with a white bar. Bullock's would show more white in the wing,
I believe, and would have black on the BACK of the head, as well as a
shorter bill. I think a hooded oriole would be at the northern edge
of its range in Eureka, but certainly not out the realm of
possibility at all.
