Yesterday between rain showers I ventured to Stillwater in an attempt to
photograph the redstarts. The rain had weighted down the tall grass so the
trail was obscured. The water on the grass soon soaked my pants up nearly to
my waist and the trek with my heavy equipment proved to be a bit of a
challenge. I was rewarded, however, with some decent images of both the male
and the female. The male followed his mate closely as she flitted about
often fanning her bright yellow tail patches. They never strayed more than
75 feet from the nest tree during the 2 hours I was there watching them.
What a treat to have them take up residence in our neck of the woods.
