I was on the road heading off for an annual vacation when the first Gray Catbird post at Three Forks was made, and just got back in town yesterday, so missed out on the several days of easy finds.? The more recent no-finds didn't bode well, but the location is so close to the house that I took my yellow Lab out for a walk by the area where it has been seen.? No luck in about fifteen minutes of searching, although the presence of my aging but hyperactive pooch does reduce my find rate, I'm sure.? I looped the meadow and was planning on giving it another look when I saw another birder standing in the area.? It turned out to be Marv Breece, who I'm hoping will re-find the bird and provide a solid reason to go try again.? I'm of the same opinion as Marv - that the bird is quite likely still around.? The brush around the big maple tree is quite thick and having grown up back east with catbirds in great abundance, my experience is that they do tend to stay buried in the vegetation much of the time although they are certainly not a shy bird by nature.?



Having already seen both the Indigo Bunting and Least Flycatcher, I did not venture off to that part of Three Forks.
