Hi Tweets,
I just returned from walking my neighbor's little white terrier in
Yost Park. For those of you not familiar with it, Yost is an Edmonds
city park, remnant lowland ravine with Shell Creek running through
it. It is also home to Barred Owls. As my little pal and I were
walking up the ravine to the far east end of the park, where the
trail joins the service road, I heard voices. Ended up the voices
belonged to two friends from Pilchuck Audubon who have been watching
the two babies every night since June 2d. At that time they were
already fledged from the nest. So my little pal and I joined up with
them. Now dogs are rarely compatible with bird watching, but a
little white dog at dusk shines like an LED flashlight. The two
youngsters (we're thinking of calling them Yosty and Tosty)
immediately flew to the tree nearest us and perched side by side on
the lowest limb to soak in the wonders of this furry little thing
that could have been owl supper for all they knew. An adult bird
flew into a tree about thirty feet away to keep an eye on things.
The adult watched the birders, while the birders watched the
youngsters, while the youngsters stared hungrily at the dog, while
the dog ignored us all. Such is the web of life. Tomorrow night the
dog and I return with the camera. The photos missed tonight were to
die for.
