Had a great day in Douglas County today on 3/1 -

Yellow-Billed Loon?- seen from 10:30-11:30 above Chief Joseph Dam.? It spent the vast majority of the time underwater - Twice I timed it's dives at over 2 minutes!? It ranged from close to the dam to just upstream of the log boom.? Once it was just 50 feet from me!? It was not associating with the 2 common loons during this time.

Hawk-Owl - at the homestead on the E side of B Street just north of 15th Street.? It was pereched on trees right along the road, eating a vole (?)

Northern Shrike - adult near the northern end of Bridgeport Hill Road

Bohemian Waxwings - 2 flocks totalling 75 birds along Grange Road

Townsend's Solitaire - 1 singing bird along Grange Road - beautiful song

Snow Bunting - 1 in flock of >300 larks along Route 172 near Route 17

Eur Collared Dove - 30 in Mansfield, on the western most road in town, south of Route 172

Rough-legged Hawk - 7 birds including 2 dark phase scattered around the county

Many thanks for all those postings of the great birds in Douglas County this winter!? Great way for a Massachusetts birders to add 5 birds to his WA statelist.
