The Pt. Wilson Yellow-billed Loon is in wing molt and is flightless. (Most waterfowl, grebes, and loons molt all their primaries and secondaries at once, rending them flightless.) There's a great photo here: www.flickr.com/photos/rlw/ (Thanks Bob!)

Has anyone noticed if the Douglas County Yellow-billed Loon is also flightless? You can often notice that they are missing flight feathers when they are preening and stretching their wings, as in Bob Whitney's photograph.
