Tweets,

Jon Danoni's message earlier today reminded me that I was going to
write about the incipient GBH rookery that appears to be underway in
the trees of the tiny designated city greenbelt along Matthews Creek
at the corner of NE 95th & Sand Point Way, just outside of Matthews
Beach Park. I live just a block or two from here & have noticed this
activity for about a week now. As mentioned, there seem to be 4-5
birds involved. IF YOU COME TO OBSERVE, PLEASE FOLLOW THE USUAL RULES
OF PROPER BIRDING BEHAVIOR AND ALSO WATCH OUT FOR TRAFFIC AT THIS
OFTEN BUSY INTERSECTION!

I've heard & seen GBHs many times in the neighborhood over the years,
and they spend some time in the rather squalid "marsh" that was
created a few years back at the S end of the main park. Some years a
bird or two have roosted sporadically in the Doug Firs in my backyard.
So it is not surprising that they are making a nesting attempt in the
area. Frankly, I wonder if this will be successful, as it is a very
exposed area, with lots of traffic during rush hours and use by
runners, bikers, and dogs along the adjacent Burke-Gilman Trail. But
there they are, so I guess it's their decision! Conjecturally, this
may also reflect losses to development of more suitable & isolated
sites in the region...

Also heard a Band-tailed Pigeon cooing in the neighborhood last
Saturday, first one in some time...
