Hello Tweeters,
Carol Riddle and I birdied the Skagit yesterday in good weather with no rain
as we Finnish at 5.00 PM when it start raining.I was astonished to see so
many Swans are still present,all the fields we drove had many of this
beautiful creatures to see in such fantastic setting ,made it the most
pictures sighting seeing the snow covert Mountain in the distance.It is
understanding even this people get flooded,there hate to leave all this
behind.
I estimated that there are still on 5000 Swans in the Skagit with few of the
wanted Tundra Swans.There was also on 20 Bald Eagle who you can ID them
already from a distance by there gigantic size.Surprisingly we saw only 2
Rough-legged Hawks ho was not cooperating for some photos.
We did see the Common Teal in the Town of Edison behind the bakery on the
mudflats among about 50 Green-winged Teals.
We spend a lot of time there to wait the bird would come closer for some
documentation,since the white horizontal bar,was not so pronounced,but this
bird had NO white vertical bar on sides.
I remember in the past birding with Patrick,the Common Teal we had showed
more broader horizontal bar,but this could be wary in different birds.The
distance was to great to get any photos
I was hoping for a Short eared Owl on the West 90,but even in the late
afternoon there was No Show!!!
On Valentine Road we had a lot of birds ,but the Blue Jay was non
showing,but the Juvenile White-throated Sparrow ( who I took pictures on a
recent Audubon trip photographing this bird from the back) I got some fairly
good shots of this bird in a bush, great bird,since it is a juvenile.We was
hoping for the Gyrfalcon,but the area is large and we had a late start.All
together there where 37 species there where in this area's Skagit County-Fir
Island, Bald Eagle,Trumpeter Swan, Canada Goose Mallard ,A.Wigeon, Eurasian
Wigeon, Red-tailed Hawks,A.Kestrel, A.Robin,,A.Crow.
Valentine RD. Fox Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow,Juvenile White-throated
Sparrow,Song Sparrow, House Sparrow,Steller's Jay, Red-breasted Nuthatch,
Black-capped Chickadee, Downy Woodpecker, Oregon Junco, House Finch
Morning Dove, Spotted Towhee.
PADILLA BAY: , Golden -crowned Kinglet,Brown Creeper, Red-breasted Nuthatch
,Downy Woodpecker
Samish Flats /Edison, Rough -legged Hawks,Red -tailed Hawks,Bald Eagle,
Northern Harrier,Common Raven, Starlings,
Northern Shoveler,A, Wigeon, Green-winged Teals,COMMON TEAL, Common
Goldeneye, Ring-necked Duck
Eurasian Collared Dove.
Dodge Valley Road: Hooded Merganser, Northern Pintail, Red-winged
Blackbirds,
