A barred owl called this afternoon at 3:10 PM from the Graysmarsh
woodland adjacent to Holland Rd., then moved northward, calling twice
more. This was the first call of this species I have heard in four
months since moving to a residence in this area. Also, a northern saw-
whet owl called at about 6 AM a couple of mornings ago, the second
time I've heard this owl nearby. Great horned owls were very vocal,
with up to four individuals calling at once, until about two weeks
ago, and are presumably nesting.
