RARE BIRD ALERT for a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH seen daily in Beach Grove Park
on 17A Avenue in Delta, just east of the Beach Grove School, from February
11th through 21th. It has not been reported since, but may still be in the
area.

RARE BIRD ALERT also for two NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, an adult and an immature, in
Jericho Park, Vancouver, where they have been seen very regularly since
before last Christmas.



Sightings for Thursday, March 5th

The RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen again at the Maplewood Conservation Area in
North Vancouver, and this time it was singing.


Sightings for Wednesday, March 4th

A SPOTTED SANDPIPER, rare in winter, was at the Maplewood Conservation Area
in North Vancouver.

A MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was seen at a feeder in the 3400 block of East 43rd
Avenue in Vancouver for the first time since last December.


Sightings for Tuesday, March 3rd

Four VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS and 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the
Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta. Nearby. Seven immature MUTE SWANS were along
Canoe Pass below the Westham Island bridge.

A lone CACKLING GOOSE was reported from the Maplewood Conservation Area in
North Vancouver.


Sightings for Monday, March 2nd

The NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL at the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver
was seen again by many birders.


Sightings for Sunday, March 1st

At Blackie Spit in Surrey, the LONG-BILLED CURLEW and a MARBLED GODWIT were
seen again near the mouth of the Nicomekl River, and a COMMON REDPOLL was
reported among a flock of sparrows.

At Piper Road on Burnaby Lake in Burnaby, one TREE SWALLOW and one
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW were reported, the first of each for the spring.
Five CACKLING GEESE were also reported here among CANADA GEESE.

Both NORTHERN GOSHAWKS were observed again at Jericho Park.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Colony Farm Regional Park.

Three BAND-TAILED PIGEONS, possibly early spring arrivals, were seen in the
3000 block of Spuraway in Coquitlam.


Sightings for Saturday, February 28th

Both NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, the adult and immature, were reported again by
several observers from Jericho Park, Vancouver.

At the foot of Piper Road on Burnaby Lake in Burnaby, a SAVANNAH SPARROW and
a singing HUTTON'S VIREO were of note.

The NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL put in one of its unpredictable appearances again at
the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver.

The adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen at Jericho Park.

The immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen at Jericho Park.


Sightings for Monday, February 23rd

An adult GYRFALCON was seen on a power pylon along Deltaport Way in Delta,
which seems to be a regular locality for this bird.

A BARRED OWL was seen and photographed in Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver.

At the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver were a RUSTY BLACKBIRD
and 3 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.


Sightings for Sunday, February 22nd

The adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK was reported from Jericho Park, Vancouver.


Sightings for Saturday, February 21st

The WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen again at Beach Grove Park in Delta.
This bird has been seen mostly in the morning, sometimes found by its calls,
and has been hard to find in the afternoon.

Also in Delta, a GYRFALCON was seen along Deltaport Way west of Highway 17.

In the Pitt Meadows area, an immature GOLDEN EAGLE was seen near Reichenbach
Road, an AMERICAN KESTREL along Thompson Road, and 3 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES
at the north end of McKechnie Road.

Two HUTTON'S VIREOS and an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD were noted at Deer Lake Park
in Burnaby, and another HUTTON'S VIREO was singing on Stevens Lane in the
Tsawwassen area of Delta.

The immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen again in Jericho Park, Vancouver.


Sightings for Friday, February 20th

A SPOTTED SANDPIPER and a drake EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL were
seen on the mudflats at the Maplewood Conservation Area in
North Vancouver.

The WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH was still at Beach Grove Park.

In Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, a SLATE-COLOURED JUNCO and
at least 3 ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS were seen.


Sightings for Thursday, February 19th

The WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH and a GREAT HORNED OWL were in Beach Grove
Park in Delta, and the wintering WILLET was still present near the base
of the nearby Tsawwassen ferry jetty.

At Blackie Spit in Surrey, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW and one MARBLED
GODWIT were noted.
