Hi Tweets,

Yesterday around noon, was surprised to observe three Western
Bluebirds working a nearby clearcut, partially snow covered, at about
1000 feet, a site where they bred last year. Weather was clear,
but cold, snow crunchy underfoot in shaded areas, hard to imagine
much insect activity. The birds were consistently dropping into
patches of Salal, which leads me to consider the possibility they
were feeding on dried berries from last year. Last year we observed
bluebirds carrying fresh salal berries to nestlings in summer.
