1) Both the juvenile and adult NORTHERN GOSHAWKs were both still present in Jericho Park in Vancouver, B.C. on Sunday, March 15th. The juvenile was perched in a tree overlooking the central duck pond, and the adult was in the tall cottonwoods overlooking the blackberry patch full of rabbits on the west end of the park (until it was mobbed by crows and flew away).



2) Sarah and I had superb looks at WOOD DUCKs, NORTHERN PINTAILs, AMERICAN WIGEONs, and the other common ducks from 2 feet away at Reifel Bird Sanctuary (off River Road just at the south end of the Deas Tunnel on 99 north into Vancouver) as we handed out grain (purchased for 50 cents from the office). With the sun shining we had a spectacular view of their plumage, getting great detail on coloration and iridescence from multiple angles (until we ran out of grain). We also saw a juvenile BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON close up, and a large assortment of sparrows.
