Tweets - I ventured south this morning, hoping to track down some of the
good birds that have been reported in Lewis, and Thurston Counties.

I didn't find what I was looking for, but I found some good birds I wasn't
looking for:

I tried and failed to find White-tailed Kites from Big Hanaford Rd, east of
Centralia. Here's some of what I did see:

Greater White-fronted Goose 1 with Canadas west of the steam plant
Eurasian Wigeon 1 with AMWI at the same spot as the
GWFG
Canvasback At least a dozen just east of the
plant
Peregrine Falcon Well west of the plant in a cottonwood
Western Bluebird Two males east of Tono Rd. still on Big
Hanaford

At Goodrich Ponds NW of Centralia (and just inside Lewis County, I had a
family of SWANS fly past the Goodrich Ponds, but I'm not positive of
species. Also along Goodrich were 4-5 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES.

Thurston county was a bit of a bust for me. I had rain in Olympia.
Nisqually proved pleasant, and notably FULL OF VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, and
fewer TREE SWALLOWS. About a half-dozen GREATER YELLOWLEGS were on the mud
in McAlister Creek. But I didn't have much else of note (no Western
Bluebirds nor Pine Grosbeaks). I did get to see the GREAT HORNED OWLS.
Awwwww.

Then I had one more surprise on my way out. I stopped at Mounts Rd., the
first exit north of Nisqually, and drove to the west end of the road.
Mounts curls back on itself, so you end up looking at the Pierce County side
of Nisqually River next to I-5. About 50 yards south of Mounts, looking
towards Nisqually, was a SAY'S PHOEBE on a white post. This was about 5:30
p.m.

Despite getting poured on a couple of times, the weather was actually quite
nice, as was the birding despite not finding my targets.
