We have had some interesting action in our back yard over the last few days.

NORTHERN FLICKER COURTSHIP RITUAL

COOPERS HAWK ATTACKED BY SQUIRREL (not a great video but captures the event - watch the upper right hand corner of the screen on the pergola. The hawk is on one end and the squirrel enters stage left.

COOPER'S HAWK EATING PIGEON

We also have had a number of pigeons being taken by Coopers Hawks. In two instances they made their kill on the back lawn and then dragged the carcass under a bush where they returned for seconds and thirds. In the past we have seen the evidence of a pigeon hitting our French Doors and then being killed by hawks with fresh globs of blood and feathers. We believe these are Cooper's Hawks because of their size. The other day we had a mature Sharp-Shinned Hawk come to the yard and it was significantly smaller than the Hawks that have been killing the pigeons.
