Subject: [Tweeters] Othello Sandhill Cranes?

This weekend Othello is hosting the Sandhill Crane Festival. The Festival
was established to guide those interested in seeing Sandhill Cranes, and now
Burrowing Owls, to these birds in a responsible manner. We have been
successful so far, even though intermittent rain has affected viewing at
some locations where Burrowing Owls are known to occur. We have also
directed those attending to areas where cranes and owls can be seen. Last
week I posted a note that some field trips would be cancelled due to lack of
registration. Festivals are established to provide a service to the hosting
community through commerce and to the participants with guides that provide
expertise. I strongly encourage attendance at the Grays Harbor Shorebird
Festival, the Sequim, Leavenworth, Edmonds and Ridgefield events, and any
others that I haven't mentioned and become available. I attended my first
"other" birding festival last year in Laredo TX and was grateful for the
opportunities that they provided.

Subject: [Tweeters] Othello Sandhill Cranes?

I headed out to Othello yesterday, the pass was wonderful.? I headed down to
Corfu Road around 4:30 and only saw about 50 Sandhill Crane flyovers betwwen
then and 6:20.? I saw a congregation of about 100 cranes near the saltwater
ponds off of 26 aound 4pm?? Does anyone know the best morning and evening
area to watch the cranes?

I also headed to look for Burrowing Owls around Cunningham and LeMaster and
tanked there.? At the traditional spot, they seem to have huge irrigation
machinery.? Any tips on owls also would be appreciated..

Thanks,
