Hello Tweeters,
We I found out that the Martin Houses on the Tokeland Marina where gone. The
Martin successfully bred in this houses in 2008.I don't know if every one
birder knowing ,it was Patrick and I who was hanging the houses up on July
13th of 2007 with the encouraging from Roger Woodruff and Stan Kostka, both
of this birders are experts of Purple Martins,Roger in collage study the
Martin and Stan is in Washington and other states The most knowing person of
Martins.
So we hanging this houses up under a lot of problems,we did not had a
ladder, but after talking to some resident we found the ladder. We was so
surprised while hanging the houses there was a group of Martin checked them
out and went in.We was sure that there would breed, but there probable
already using the old tire. Many birders visiting Tokeland, birders out of the
state, but our happiness did not last long there was the person who is some
kind of caretaker told us on one of our visit's in August that the houses
have to be removed, since there making a mess on the boardwalk .Before we was
hanging the houses up we ask some people on the Marina if this would be
Ongoing from the old rotten tire to the bird houses, and the all said that it
would be OK.
So what we done walked to the recreation center to trying to find out who
owe or have authority for the Marina,Nothing we could find out ,I was so
frustrated that when I saw a police Officer on patrol,he listen to my story
about the Martin houses. He helped me and told us that the office who is the
Port of WILLAPA HARBOR and is located in Raymond.
So we drove to Raymond and talked to the manager, cause she listen to my
story about the Martin being kind of rare on the coast. When I was Finnish
she went on the phone and called the man up,who told me to remove the
houses up ( not mention any name) She told him that the houses are staying
on and don't bother the birds. So this was in 2007 .

So I decided to driving to Raymond out to put them up for me.What a relieve
this was,and also we talked about Patrick since he passed on two month
after the boxes put up.
THE GOOD NEWS is,SOME CARING BIRDER DONATED 2 BRAND NEW BOXES!!!!!!!!!
What will be going up next week ,hoping that it is still time for the Martin
to breed in.
We maybe taken that old tire down,if any of you birders having any input
about the tire ,contact me in private

Cheers Ruth Sullivan
