Thanks Connie for bringing this up....I am always interested in stories. I
thought to mention the first time I walked the path out to what is now the
Sandpiper Trail at Bowerman. My father, Jack Davis, was showing me the
shorebird migration out on the mud flats...this was back in 1988, way before
the boardwalk....but I remember not the shorebirds so much as the sound of
Marsh Wrens accompanying us from beginning to end.

Then Rob's post about the raven (wonderful story Rob!) reminded me of the
day I was watching shorebirds from Bob Morse's lot on North Bay in Ocean
Shores...and the entire time I stood there I was aware of a crow carrying on
a veritable conversation of noises from a nearby tree. There was no other
crow within my sight, but I was utterly charmed by the sounds of this large
songbird.

My friend Kathleen Wolgemuth just called to tell me there are two birders
standing completely surrounded by thousands of shorebirds...right at the
edge of Bill's Spit and just about to be pushed back by the rapidly incoming
high tide....so someone is out birding!
