Lots of folks are?reporting Western Tanagers showing up, so this isn't anything unusual in terms of the species.? However, in a walk on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail through the Three Forks area this morning, I had FOUR male Western Tanagers fly into a tree which was already being worked by at least eight Yellow-rumped Warblers.? I usually don't see this many males together, and all were in bright breeding plumage.? I imagine that shortly when they wind up wherever they're planning on finding a mate, this chummy group of?migrating guys?will become fierce rivals.?



I also had my first Black-headed Grosbeak of the year in the back yard this morning.? A pair of Purple Finches, the male in very fine plumage, has been?visiting my feeders for the last couple of days as well.?
