I spent the better part of yesterday birding in Grays Harbor county
and some in Pacific county, with the highlight of the trip being the
sheer numbers of Whimbrels and Ruddy Turnstones at Tokeland. I
started out in the early morning along the Newman Creek Road and
forest road A2300 near Satsop, where Sooty Grouse were booming
throughout the area. I then made for the coast stopping at the
Hoquiam sewage ponds, Westport, Bottle Beach, Tokeland, and a couple
other quick beach stops. At the access near Grayland Beach State Park
it was amazing just to watch the massive number of Sooty Shearwaters
flowing past in a northerly directtion so close to the shoreline. I
stayed there for a hour or so just watching them pass by, an
incredible site. Some of the highlights of the trip included:

Eurasian Wigeon - 1 bird seen at Tokeland
Sooty Grouse - Many heard along forest road A2300 north of Satsop -
but only one individual was seen (it was quite foggy up there in the
morning)
Sooty Shearwater - Massive amounts passing by the beach near Garyland
Beach State Park
Brown Pelican - everywhere
Whimbrel - 70~ birds at Tokeland (wow!)
Ruddy Turnstone - 60~ birds at Tokeland (wow again!)
Glaucous Gull - Westport Marina
Eurasian Collared Dove - Newman Creek Road, Satsop
Northern Pygmy-Owl - Heard along forest road A2300, Satsop
Black-headed Grosbeak - forest road A2300, Satsop
Wilson's Warbler - I am mentioning this because it seemed to be the
most common warbler along forest road A2300, Satsop. I was seeing and
hearing them at almost every stop I made in that area.
