Hello all,
Jon Lundak spotted a juv. N. Saw-whet Owl in an 8 ft. cottonwood snag on the
north shore of Bennington Lake on Saturday - folks on Sunday morning saw it
briefly still in the hole - but by Sunday afternoon when we were able to get
out there Mike spotted it in thick cottonwoods across the trail. Another
bird was spotted flying behind the juv. - don't know if adult or another
young. The snag where they nested is in the open along the lake shore - we
walk by it every week and never suspected - - - just needed to be there in
the evening! This is the first nesting we know of down in the valley - they
are normally found in the foothills.
A Lewis's Woodpecker was seen there yesterday for #199 for the Walla Walla
county yearlist - looking for #200 today!!
