Odd for Western Kingbirds (casual in Puget Sound?) but not so odd for
Western Scrub Jays it seems. I've even see and heard them on Capitol
Hill (just off Broadway ... very urban) last year (systematically
nest raiding) in spring, summer and fall (none this year yet).

Another thing to note is the range maps change. And so do field guides.

The Big Sibley (2000) has maps that would seem to indicate it's out
of range. But the small Western Sibley (2003) has updated maps that
moves the Western Scrub Jay range north has Eastern WA marked as rare
but SW WA as all year. The Puget Sound is still "out of range on the
map" but I suspect it's less out of range than it was.

The "big" (new) Peterson (2008) has even newer range maps with the
Western Scrub Jay northern range now including both sides of the
Puget Sound.

A good reason to buy all the new field guides :-)
