To chime in on the Hermit Warbler RFI, the upper elevations of Capitol Forest is always a good place to look in season. Another location to try is Mount Walker in Jefferson County. In fact the foothills of the Olympic Mountains in this area (East side and south of Mount Walker) in the elevation range between 1000 and 3000 feet or so are also good areas to search. And speaking of Capitol Forest?

My brother and I birded Capitol Forest early this past Saturday (5/9). There were lots of Hermit Warblers on territory there. We chose to run the route along the C-Line from the Waddle Creek entrance from Delphi Road to Highway 12 near Porter in Grays Harbor County, with a side trip to the area along the ridge top around Capitol Peak and Larch Mountain (C-4000) and along the ridge south of Wedekind (D-1000 and spurs). It would seem that Hermit Warblers are best looked for here above 1200 feet in this area. Other birds of note included many calling Sooty Grouse (both counties), and a couple of very territorial Northern Pygmy Owls, and a Hammonds Flycatcher in Grays Harbor County. We were unable to locate any Mountain Quail dispite searching.

Cheers?
