Hi everyone,

I led?the Saturday morning birding walk today at Discovery Park.? The weather was gorgeous and the birds were reasonably cooperative.?

Best bird of the morning was a SORA at the Utah Wetlands pond.? This bird was completely out in the open, walking around on some dead cattails on one side of the pond for several minutes while we watched before it retreated into the vegetation .?

Also a word of warning for those walking near the lighthouse...there is a KILLDEER NEST very close to the beach path that walks along the north side of the lighthouse area and connects to the paved trail.? As our group walked in this area, we came upon a pair of Killdeer that were making a fuss and the female did the 'broken wing' display to lead us away.? Not knowing where the nest was (except that it must?be very close) it was then?discovered within a foot or two of the worn-down walking path through that area.? It would be nice if the pair could successfully hatch the chicks (they leave the nest almost immediately) before someone steps on the eggs, so please use care if you see the?adult birds?in this area.?
