hello everyone,
this week's edition of Birds in the News is now available. It features a gorgeous photograph of a wild pair of endangered Lear's Macaws, Anodorhynchus leari, which are considered to be a "great" conservation success story;

as you know, i am very passionate about the birds of the south pacific islands, particularly the lories. one of the lory species that i've studied and have written about on my blog, the Rimatara lory, Vini kuhlii. This small and endangered parrot is the subject of a three part video series detailing its translocation from its one island refuge to another in its historic range. this was a complex undertaking, involving birders, scientists, veterinarians, conservation organizations, several governments and even more funding agencies, and of course, the native peoples of the "donor" and "recipient" islands. Part one is here, and the next two parts will be posted, one per day, at the same time as this one;
