Just wanted to mention that we just got home from a wonderful weekend at the Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest. For any of you who have not gone, consider it for next year. This was the first time we had been and it won't be the last.

Most of their activities require pre-registration but some allow half to register 30 minutes before the start of the trip. My favorite of the weekend was "Songs of the Sage" on Saturday AM. We rode up to shrub-steppe habitat in National Forest Service vehicles and were treated to wonderful views and sounds from Horned Larks, White Throated Swifts, Brewers, Lark & Vesper Sparrows not to mention the ever present Western Meadowlarks and many more. The leader, Janet Millard, was just wonderful - the most amazing ears - she could identify songs I could just barely hear - plus she had a great sense of humor etc.

Another highlight was a marvelous barbeque (although I must say they do need to add vegetarian options) with lovely acoustic music followed by Paul Bannick's Keynote and slide presentation.

All in all, a great weekend. Mark your calendars to google them sometime next April. This year registration started around May 1st.
