Yesterday I kayaked around Cassimir Bar at the mouth of the Okanagan River.
Coming around a corner of a slough, I saw a pair of Wilson's Phalaropes and
quickly got off a picture before they rounded another corner. Coming around
quietly, I hoped for more photos. Instead, a flock of geese burst out of the
bushes with a coyote in hot pursuit. Coyote took one gosling while the
others escaped. Then coyote noticed me and dropped the bird and retreated.
The geese swam away without looking back. The coyote went to the end of the
sand bar and swam across the channel and as I left, coyote was heading in
the direction of the dead bird, perhaps to feed pups in a den?
