Sorry to bother everybody with RED CROSSBILLS again, but this seems the year
for them here in Twin Lakes and in Western Washington. Yesterday I had 4-5
on SW 328th Street in a tall pine. I observed them for several minutes and a
single green female was sitting near the top of a tall spruce tree for the
duration. It almost appeared, that this was a sentinel guarding against a
raptor sneak attack, while the rest of the flock was feeding.
Today I had a flock of 20+ crossing the road in front of me, changing
trees. One of them actually carried a pine cone to the next tree.

Also yesterday seemed to have a movement of YELLOW - and WILSON'S WARBLERS
through the area. Unusual for Twin Lakes was a single TURKEY VULTURE passing
over on the wind. A pair of CANADA GEESE was guarding a newly hatched flock
of 11 goslings ON LAKE JEANE. This seems an abnormal number, since geese
clutch size normally is 5 or 6 eggs. Could this be from two clutches? Seems
to me, that at the size of goose eggs, a female could not effectively cover
11 eggs and have them hatch ?
