We didn't have to leave the house for some great birds this morning. In addition to being sung to beautifully by a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK for nearly ten mintues, we also have our flock of 12 or so EVENING GROSBEAKS back again this morning (been here almost two weeks every day for half the day). In addition to a couple PURPLE FINCHES, the males singing energetically, and at least one YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER we have the all the usuals as well, HOUSE FINCHES, BLACK-CAPPED and CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, PINE SISKINS, JUNCOS, MORNING DOVES and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS. The TREE SWALLOWS have been back for a few weeks and I heard a GOLDEN EAGLE in the distance.

We are pretty excited about our variety of birds given we live in suburbia on a lot without mature trees. Our Dogwoods and Apple trees are coming along but there is nothing like having a few big Cedars or Doug-fir trees to attract all the forest dwelling birds.
