Thanks to Tweeters postings by Bill Shelmerdine and Jeffrey Cohen, we knocked off one of our nemesis birds today at Capitol State Forest. We used the directions of driving up Sherman Valley Rd and C-line and turned right onto C-4000. We parked in a slight turnoff about 1/10 mile on C-4000. A beautiful male HERMIT WARBLER was soon singing at the top of one of the conifers. He gave us almost 15 minutes of good looks while he turned in place. We may also have seen a pair flying in the same general area, but were unable to locate those birds. Also in the same area was a singing BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK. We couldn't identify a flycatcher or Western Wood-Pewee a little lower in elevation while hiking on a portion of the Greenline trail. Thanks again for the postings!
