One observation I forgotten: I saw two different plumaged birds (one
lighter below and one all dark) allopreening on the crossboom just
before I left.

That was the thing that confirmed PURMAR for me as I walked away.
Allopreening meant they were both the same species. There are no
swallows that either look like that (are sexually diamorphic: either
all dark or dark but lighter underneath) or would allow that behavior
between two different species (unless you have some really open-
minded swallows on the Eastside :-).
