Hello, tweets.

Netta Smith and I went to Kittitas County today to try to find birds
to photograph. On the way over, I saw a cloud of crows coming across
I-90 from north to south at about mile post 73, east of Easton. At
their front was an adult, probably male, Peregrine Falcon flying
lickety-split with something large in its talons, surely a crow. I
suppose there is a nest somewhere in the area.

Other noteworthy birds were the Evening Grosbeaks, abundant all
through the Wenatchee Mountains. Last time I saw this was many years
ago, and they were there because of a spruce budworm outbreak. I
assume it is the same now, as they were feeding among the branches,
not on any seeds. We heard their calls almost anywhere we stopped,
and they were all over the ground at one site north of Liberty.
