Hi Tweets,

I shoe-horned myself into rain pants this morning and ended up not
needing them other than as a wind guard. No rain on the public pier
this morning and seas relatively flat in the Edmonds vicinity.
Birding was slow and numbers were low.

Red-throated Loon (1, fly-by)
Double-crested Cormorant
Pelagic Cormorant
Western Grebe
Horned Grebe
Red-necked Grebe (2, fly-bys)
Red-breasted Merganser (5, females only)
Surf Scoter
White-winged Scoter (3, fly-bys)
Mew Gull
Heermann's Gull
Bonaparte's Gull
Glaucous-winged Gull
Pigeon Guillemot
Rhinoceros Auklet
Common Murre (1 fly-by)
Crow
Rock Pigeon

Water level was low in the Marsh again this morning on an 11+ foot
tide. The city's failure to manage the Marsh for wildlife is a
continuing frustration. There were five Green-winged Teals and eight
Great Blue Herons, plus a flock of Bushtits in the Harbor Square
parking lot. Pretty meager when there should be plenty of water in
the Marsh for ducks at this time of year.

The Point Edward Public Path was fairly quiet until I got to the far
end where the surface water retention pond is. There were Gadwall,
Northern Shoveler, Spotted Towhee, House Finch, Yellow-rumped
Warbler, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Good birding,

Carol Riddell
