The other day I went over to my neighbor's house and saw a lot of white wash
in fairly small droplets on the trunk of a Douglas fir tree and the ground
close to the trunk. I looked thoroughly for casting as my thoughts turned
to a small owl, but found none. I cleared away the whitewash on the ground
to see if there would be more and nothing new appeared when I looked a
couple of days later. The whitewash was coming straight down from the
branches above as I could see it on some of the branches. I am going to
keep checking. Are there always pellets at roosting sites if it's an owl -
or maybe it is a hunting perch that was used very regularly? Anyone have
any ideas of other birds that it could be or any other thoughts about this?
