Hey all,

Went over to West Seattle briefly this morning. I was looking for Surfbirds out there, and was able to find 6-7 shorebirds working the rocks, but wasn't sure if they were Surfbirds or Black Turnstones. I've only recently seen both of those species for the first time, and I didn't have my field book with me - but I looked over the coloring on the back, and when I checked Sibley's at home, I think it was the Turnstones. Instead of a uniform gray on the back it looked more like what I saw in the picture - a smoothly colored head and neck, becoming more mottled down the back towards the tail. Beaks also seemed dark.

Has anyone seen them in West Seattle recently as well? Are they about as common as the Surfbirds there?
