Hi Tweets

The Northern Mockingbird was still present at the Grange east of Cle Elum (just uphill from the Teanaway Road) just after noon today. It was hanging out in the choke cherries, along with California Quail, White-crowned Sparrows and Cedar Waxwings. When I first arrived it was fairly shy and moving around in the shrubs. With some encouragement it came out and perched nicely on the top of one of the shrubs.

Having lived with Northern Mockingbirds for many years down in California, this is the scruffiest mockingbird I have ever seen. Normally they are sleek, but this individual is really moth-eaten in appearance. It will be nice if it hangs around long enough to take on a "proper" look.

Good Birding,
