Sharon Aagaard and Stan Wood joined me for this monthly survey by the Eastside Audubon which took 4 hrs 40 min. Len Steiner was also with us for the first hour. The 640 acre park (a square mile) is located on the Sammamish Plateau with access from the end of NE 8th St. where start the survey. The main entrance which has a large parking lot and restrooms is at the end of Main St. It is a heavily wooded area with trails

The weather was perfect, clear, 48-58 degrees, calm and a lot of good birds. It was a pleasure to be out.

We were greeted at the start with a Pileated Woodpecker ( 1 of the 4 woodpecker species) that landed at top of a snag.

Highlights included our first Barred Owl that gave us excellent looks for as long as we wanted. We also all heard a Northern Pygmy-Owl call a number of times. We had our first Varied Thrush & Hermit Thrush since last spring. We had high counts for the survey for G-c Kinglets, Winter Wren, C-b Chickadee, R-b Nuthatch, and Steller's Jays.

The results of this and all previous monthly surveys of Soaring Eagle Regional Park are posted to eBird where you can access the results.
