Subject: [Tweeters] Thomas Ponds: No Sharp-tailed Sandpiper This Morning

I arrived at the intersection of SR 167 and 277th St. this morning to
find Frontage Road closed due to a one-day repaving project. So I
parked on 44th and walked up the Interurban Trail, cut through the U-
Haul parking lot and emerged at the ponds. I watched from 7:30 to
9:30 a.m. and neither Pectorals nor Sharp-taileds appeared. Three
other birders showed up for varying lengths of time. We heard that
others were turned away from Frontage Road and decided to try
tomorrow. Here is what was there during the two hours I watched:

Canada Goose
Mallard
Gadwall
American Wigeon
Northern Shoveler
Hooded Merganser
Wood Duck
Pied-billed Grebe
Northern Harrier
Red-tailed Hawk
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Greater Yellowlegs (1)
Long-billed Dowitcher (8)
Red-winged Blackbird (abundant)
Brewer's Blackbird (abundant)
Marsh Wren
Song Sparrow
Crow
Starling
Rock Pigeon

As the repaving project ramps up this afternoon, I don't expect that
the road crew will let birders walk in to view the ponds from the
edge of the road. Those who are still interested should try tomorrow
morning when Frontage Road will be re-opened.
