Today while I was tending to the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group
(www.hcseg.org) fish trap on the Union River near Belfair, Mason County, a
couple of Dippers flew up river and perched on logs, did their dipping
thing, and flitted around for a while. They were fun to watch. The angle
was bad so I couldn't see them "fly" underwarer, but that was OK. This was
the first time in my six years of this volunteer gig that I'd ever seen them
on the river, but I guess there's no reason they wouldn't be there.

Also, between last weekend and today Surf Scoters started arriving on the
Port Washington Narrows. I saw a small flock of maybe 18 birds, all of
which were male. Until today I didn't realize/hadn't paid attention that
both genders don't arrive together. Thank you BNA Online! It'll be fun to
check daily to see when the females start coming in.
