This afternoon several of us joined Charlie on Marine View Dr. to scope the log booms and find the Black-tailed Gull amongst the Mews, ?Bonapartes, other gulls, Black Turnstones, seals?and otters.? He was well hidden. After a couple of frustrating hours three of us went out on a small boat and were able to get great views of the gull looking back towards the shore.?? ? The darker gray mantle, yellow legs, pale eyes and yellow bill with black subterminal band and bright red tip set him apart from the others on the boom. When i n flight his wide black tail bar and black wing tips confirmed the id.

Special thanks to Charlie for spotting and sharing this beautiful bird and to Shep Thorpe for a bird's eye view from his boat. I can hardly wait to see the photos!

HOORAY, another lifebird!
