Tom Mansfield and I spent the morning birding the Woodland Bottoms along Dike Rd. We began predawn with Great Horned Owl, Short-eared Owl, Western Meadowlarks singing, Horned Larks in a grass seed field, and Snipe taking off from several fields.



A stop at Vancouver Lake produced 1 Clark's Grebe with Westerns and 7 Great Egrets flying over the lake. The Lower River Rd. produced a fairly large flock of Snow Geese with the other normal geese and lots of Sandhill Cranes.



A quick stop at Ridgefield NWR River "S" Unit had 1 lone Greater White-fronted Goose on a small grassy, muddy island in Rest Lake and in the distance a Eurasian Wigeon.



Kalama River Rd. exit we had 1 male Sharp-shinned Hawk near a large flock of Cedar Waxwings. Maybe waxwings taste a lot like chicken to a Sharpie.
