This is slightly off-topic, but is related to our annual conversation about how to interest kids in birding, and how to increase the diversity of birders. A high-poverty classroom in NYC that is seeking funding to purchase binoculars to teach fifth graders about bird watching. I added this funding request to my DonorsChoose classroom so you can donate and, because I believe so strongly in increasing the racial and socioeconomic "biodiversity" among birders, I donated $300 to kick-start this project. Those of you who know me and my situation will know that $300 is a *significant* chunk of change for me, but I am determined to help change one of the many injustices that I see in America by making this gift to support the educational future of this country, even though I am relocating to Germany in a few weeks and likely will never return.
