Greetings,

The Black-tailed Gull was on a log boom at Commencement Bay around 12:45-1:45 PM today (10/21). I believe it was at the 'traditional' spot, but I can't say for sure. I just stopped where I saw birders. Three were there and already had the bird in their scopes. Two birders left, and then Shep came by in his boat and gave the two of us remaining a ride out to the gull. We had killer views from about 75 feet away, which was only possible because I had left my camera at home. I had figured I'd only see the bird distantly in the rain instead of up close in sunlight...I keep telling myself the harsh midday sun was horrible for photography.
