Subject: [Tweeters] Pink-sided junco??

Coincidentally, I was studying Junco sub-species during a visit to New
Mexico last week. At my family's cabin in far northern New Mexico we had
large flocks of Junco's with multiple sub-species. I had Pink-side,
Gray-headed, Oregon and Red-backed. I looked hard but couldn't find any
White-winged. The Pink-sided had noticeably lighter gray heads than the
Oregon and pretty distinctly contrasting dark lores.



It's hard to tell from your photo but the head looks pretty dark.the lores
could be dark but the lighting isn't great. Perhaps one of the local birding
wise men/women can confirm.

I had never heard of a pink-sided junco before but someone suggested that
this was one. It does look different than all the others at my feeder, not
to mention, that all the other males are chasing it off.
