Enough flooding in Kent for the fields off of Frager road to have a fair number of ducks yesterday: Wigeon, Green-winged teal, and the first Northern Pintails I've seen this season. Also circling the field for several minutes was a Wilson's Snipe. It was pretty high up, but the long bill was easy to catch in binocs, and it made raspy calls as it circled widely.



Other stops: Des Moines Beach Park: Glaucous winged and Mew Gulls floating near shore, and a Greater Yellowlegs feeding. From the end of the dock, I got a great view of some Surf Scoters, a Horned Grebe, and a Marbled Murrelet.



Brown's Point lighthouse: Bonaparte and Mew Gulls. Savannah Sparrow hopping around in the rocks at the beach.



Commencement bay: Beautiful sunny day meant backlit gulls, so the Black-Tailed Gull wasn't seen while I was there (early afternoon). Did get some good looks at Mew, California and Bonaparte gulls, as well as Black Turnstones on the logs. Thanks to Michael Donahue and Ruth Sullivan for the looks and the free gull class! (Michael will be teaching a class through Seattle Audubon on the next two Saturdays - I should at least put in a plug for him! :) )
